Run Notes Apps on iPads
It's coming soon! HCL is working hard on Notes/Domino R10! Don't uninstall your Notes clients just yet.
The Notes client is in grave need of some updates. Notes, since it's inception, has been the leading Rapid Application Development platform. You just can't build business funcitonal applications, securely, with anything else as quickly. The Notes R10 client promises Node-js built in. Now, what about moible devices such as iPads and Android tablets? Notes R10 promises to run on these devices. Imagine what's coming. Install the Notes app from the Apple Store and run your existing Notes apps and build new apps on the device with the native controls of the device your working on. Think date pickers, GPS, share via text/email. We will have hooks from the Notes apps into the features your iPad provides and your users expect.
Not many companies are developing apps for mobile devices, other than via mobile browsers. Soon, the companies that continue to leverage the IBM Notes technology will be able to extend the reach of their apps to more devices.
Think of all the peices that need to be put in place today to build an app for an iPad (security, dealing with the Apple App store, figuring out a way to store local data). With Notes R10, think "REPLICATION"!. You have your local data store and a faster performing native app on your mobile devices.
I like Ben's assessment of what is in store for your mobile devices.
